Explaining the Unexplainable

As I started to write this, with no Bible passage to base it on, I pondered HOW TO? What is stewardship and what does it mean in this context? And exactly what are Godís mysteries?

Off to the net and research to gain insight, starting with the dictionary and the Bible.

Miriam Webster says stewardship is: 1. the office, duties and obligations of a steward; 2. the conducting, supervising, or managing of something; especially: the careful and responsible management of something entrusted to oneís care.

The International Standard Bible Encyclopedia shows that the Old Testament references the concept of steward with various translations: Genesis 43:16; 19; 44:1; 1 Kings 16:9; Daniel 1:11; Isaiah 22:15, and (in King James) Genesis 15:2; Chronicles 28:1. In the New Testament, Galatians 4:2 and the Gospels and Epistles appear to reference our use of the word steward.

And then: the Lordís mysteries. A mystery is something that is difficult or impossible to understand or explain.

So stewardship of the Lord's mysteries is the delegated, given or inherited responsibility for managing, executing, continuing, sharing and trying to explain what I cannot see or prove, but only accept by faith given to me by and through the Holy Spirit.

Creation was by God who is eternal. I believe that, cannot explain it, and as the steward will share and testify to this faith!

We and our forefathers have sinned and continue to do so, but God so loves us that we are saved by this love and receive forgiveness. I ask God to help my faith through the Holy Spirit. I cannot explain it, but as the steward attempt to live accordingly, to share it and testify to it!

Jesus the Christ, God's Son, washed and served his disciples at their final communion together, promising us that his being part of God would allow us to receive the Holy Spirit through faith and be part of his kingdom. I believe those words and celebrate them all the time and as his steward live in my church community. I cannot explain it because it truly is a mystery, but through the faith given I accept that this IS God's mystery!
