Joy to the World

I LOVE Joy to the World!

Joy to the World, the Lord has come!
Let earth receive her king.

Those words, that music, fills me with happiness and joy and hope.

AND…I love Joy to the World…

…all the boys and girls.
Joy to the fishes in the deep blue sea.
Joy to you and me.

We don’t find the second Joy to the World in our hymnal or any hymnal. We find this hit in the songbook of Three Dog Night. This song released in 1972 has been at the top of my chart since its release. Yes, Jeremiah the Bull Frog and wine are part of the song. But the part that makes my heart sing are the words:

Joy to the world, all the boys and girls.
Joy to the fishes in the deep blue sea.
Joy to you and me.

What a wonderful blessing to spread to all humanity. Joy: the joy that arrived the day that Christ was born to Mary. Christ, who came to all—the fishes, the boys and girls, you and me. Joy that is ours eternally.

May we all sing joy to the world forever and ever. Joy is ours.

Most gracious God, even during Lent, you are joy to a hurting and troubled world. During this Lenten journey, help me to slow down and take notice. And in what I say and do, increase the world’s joy in you. Amen
